Let's dive into the darkness:
1. Meat Kills: The Dutch Horror Film That Earned an NC-17 Rating!
Meat Kills, directed by Martijn Smits, has made history as the first Dutch horror film to receive the dreaded NC-17 rating. Now available on VOD and streaming exclusively on Screambox, this movie is not for the faint of heart. Bloody Disgusting readers can even snag a special Screambox introductory offer: three months of terror for just $6.66! Stream thousands of hours of slashers, thrillers, and gore right now (https://explore.screambox.com/?utmsource=bloody-disgusting&utmmedium=what-to-watch-list-nov-11&utm_campaign=cta).
But what makes Meat Kills so extreme? The film plunges you into the chaos that erupts when animal rights activist Mirthe and her group target a pig farm, sparking a brutal cycle of violence and revenge.
As Dread Central raved after its Fantastic Fest 2025 premiere, "Nasty, mean cinema is back, baby!" Their review (https://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/545972/meat-kills-review-lean-mean-extreme-horror-takes-a-bite-out-of-modern-activism-fantastic-fest-2025/) went on to declare that Meat Kills is an "evolution of European horror," comparing it to classics like Calvaire, High Tension, and Frontier(s). It's a film that dares to make viewers uncomfortable, offering a harrowing examination of human cruelty masked as a righteous cause.
Shade Studios echoes this sentiment, stating, "I don’t think I have ever seen a movie as nihilistic and ugly as Meat Kills. The kills are visceral and brutal, with top-notch practical effects. Lots and lots of guts and gore, with an equal amount of tension and scares. I never wanted to take my eyes off the screen…it’s impossible to predict what will come next.” (https://shadestudios.com/f/fantastic-fest-2025-meat-kills-review?blogcategory=Steve+Ramsey)
The cast includes Caro Derkx, Sem Ben Yakar, Sweder de Sitter, Emma Josten, Derron Lurvink, Bart Oomen, Chardonnay Rillen, Juliette van de Weerdt, and Tommy Zonneveld. Meat Kills was written by Paul de Vrijer and directed by Martijn Smits.
2. Deathstalker: A Reboot with Slash on Guitar!
Remember the 1983 sword and sorcery cult classic? Deathstalker, a reboot produced by Roger Corman, starring Daniel Bernhardt, is now available on VOD from Shout Studios. Steven Kostanski (Psycho Goreman, The Void) wrote and directed this fantasy-horror spectacle.
The Kingdom of Abraxeon is under siege by the Dreadites, heralds of the sorcerer Nekromemnon. When Deathstalker recovers a cursed amulet, he becomes the target of monstrous assassins. To survive, he must break the curse and confront the rising evil.
The cast also includes Christina Orjalo, Paul Lazenby, Nicholas Rice, Nina Bergman, and Patton Oswalt as the voice of the wizard Doodad. And here's a fun fact: Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash is an executive producer and collaborated with composer Bear McCreary ("The Walking Dead") on the film’s theme song! 3. Queens of the Dead: A Big Gay Zombie Movie from a Romero!
Tina Romero, daughter of the legendary George A. Romero (the father of the modern zombie movie), makes her feature directorial debut with Queens of the Dead. This horror-comedy, hot off its theatrical run, is now available at home, and Tina herself describes it as a "big gay zombie movie." And this is the part most people miss: It's not just zombies; it's a fresh, queer take on the genre from someone carrying the torch of a horror icon.
Set during a zombie apocalypse in Brooklyn, the film follows a group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies who must put aside their drama and use their unique skills to fight the undead.
The star-studded cast includes Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Margaret Cho (Fire Island), Jack Haven (I Saw The TV Glow), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), Nina West (Drag Race), Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomas Matos (Fire Island), Quincy Dunn-Baker (No Hard Feelings), Becca Blackwell (Bros), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Dominique Jackson (Pose), Riki Lindhome (Knives Out), and Eve Lindley (Bros).
4. Frenzy Moon: A Practical Effects Werewolf Throwback!
If you're craving a good old-fashioned werewolf flick with plenty of practical effects, Frenzy Moon is now available on VOD. Gregory Lamberson (Slime City) wrote and directed this indie horror offering.
Six grad students on a weekend getaway at a remote cabin find themselves trapped in a terrifying situation when a mysterious hunter warns them about werewolves. When wolflike creatures attack and wound one of them, they must defend themselves against a ravenous pack of monsters.
5. Keeper: Osgood Perkins Delivers Another Unnerving Fairy Tale!
From the twisted mind of Osgood Perkins (Longlegs, The Monkey), Keeper is a chilling fairy tale nightmare now playing in theaters nationwide from NEON.
The film follows a couple on a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm abruptly leaves, Liz finds herself isolated and confronted by an unspeakable evil that reveals the cabin's horrifying secrets.
Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black") and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) star in this atmospheric thriller, written by Nick Lepard (Dangerous Animals). Perkins is already working on his next film, The Young People (https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3911743/the-young-people-tatiana-maslany-johnny-knoxville-more-join-osgood-perkins-horror-movie/), slated for a 2026 release.
6. The Carpenter's Son: Nicolas Cage in a Supernatural Biblical Thriller!
From Magnolia Pictures and director Lotfy Nathan, The Carpenter's Son is playing in select theaters. This horror film is described as "a meticulously crafted, genre-bending supernatural thriller packed with unshakeable images of the divine and demonic at war." Nicolas Cage stars alongside FKA twigs and Noah Jupe.
Inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, the film tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. Joseph (Nicolas Cage), Mary (FKA twigs), and their son Jesus (Noah Jupe) live under constant threat. But a stopover in a small settlement unleashes chaos when a mysterious stranger (Isla Johnston) tries to entice young Jesus to abandon his father's rules.
As Joseph realizes that a demonic power is at work, violent and unnatural events inexplicably follow Jesus, leading him to terrifying visions of the future. He learns the truth about his new playmate, whose real name is Satan. But here's where it gets controversial... Is this film blasphemous, or a thought-provoking exploration of good and evil?
7. The Things You Kill: Lynchian Surrealism Meets Turkish Culture!
