SummaryUnder the supervision of the Director of Food and Nutrition Services, coordinate and administer food service operations at assigned district locations. Monitor program compliance, implement corrective and maintenance action plans as needed, and handle all personnel issues at assigned locations. Provide nutrition education in the cafeteria as needed.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesDuties and assignments may vary based on building assignment, academic year, and school needs. The following frequencies and percentages of time spent are approximations only.
Supervise food service personnel and production operations across the district. Establish quality standards and monitor employee adherence in the presentation, merchandising, taste, and service of food. Create employee performance goals and maintain documentation of performance appraisals. Plan, coordinate, and conduct training of food service personnel (e.g., use and care of equipment, safety and sanitation, child nutrition program procedures, and management training). [Daily, 40%]
Ensure, monitor, and maintain compliance of food service programs, including health and safety rules, to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and agencies. Develop, implement, and enforce department and district policies and procedures. [Daily, 25%]
Analyze individual facilities’ profit/loss statements and problem solve financial discrepancies. Assist in determining the type and quantity of food and supplies to be purchased based on student needs and available resources. [Daily, 10%]
Plan, implement, and coordinate all marketing activities to district schools and the community. [Daily, 10%]
Educate district personnel, students, and the community. Facilitate nutrition education sessions in the cafeteria as needed. [Monthly, 5%]
Evaluate equipment needs, write specifications, and arrange for delivery, installations, and start-up. [Monthly, 5%]
Analyze software problems and install and maintain computer equipment and software. [Monthly, 3%]
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 2%]
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in food science, food service management, culinary arts, or related degree, or five (5) years of restaurant management experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Three (3) years of experience supervising food service personnel.
Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
Basic knowledge of nutrient analysis, food safety, personnel management, food service operations, related software applications, and nutrition education.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
Ability to effectively supervise personnel at multiple work sites.
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
Ability to promote and follow the Board of Education policies, District policies, and building and department procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.
Required Certificates, Licenses, And RegistrationsAll certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.
Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification.
School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) certification from the School Nutrition Association (SNA).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising personnel at multiple work sites.
Experience in school food and nutrition services, specifically in public education.
Intermediate knowledge of nutrient analysis, food safety, personnel management, food service operations, related software applications, and nutrition education.
Physical And Mental Demands/Work Environment
