The first look, revealed in an exclusive chat with Empire magazine, gives us a glimpse of the characters played by Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Mia Goth.
Tom Holland takes on the role of Telemachus, Odysseus's son. The poster showcases Holland in armor, with a serious expression, hinting at the weight of his character's role.
Anne Hathaway, who has previously worked with Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, portrays Penelope, Odysseus's wife. Mia Goth, known for her role in Frankenstein, will play Melantho, one of Penelope’s maids. The poster reveals Hathaway gazing into the distance with a bow, while Goth stands behind her in a plain brown outfit.
But here's where it gets controversial... Nolan's dedication to realism is evident. The director revealed he shot over two million feet of film for the project. Using 65mm film, this amounts to roughly $3 million worth of film. The movie was entirely shot on IMAX, demanding more film than standard cameras. Nolan has shot approximately 100 hours of raw footage.
Nolan described the 91-day shoot as “pretty primal.” The crew even filmed in the open sea to capture the arduous journey's scale. Nolan explained, “We got the cast who play the crew of Odysseus’ ship out there on the real waves, in the real places. We really wanted to capture how hard those journeys would have been for people.
