What time does jury duty start in Fresno, CA? ›

Courts normally begin their jury trials each morning at 8:30 AM and recess for lunch between 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM and end the day by 5:00 PM. Once you have been assigned as a juror to a courtroom, the court will instruct you as to what time you are to report directly to the courtroom.

In Fresno County, you must put yourself back on calendar in person. If you have been charged with a misdemeanor, go to that clerk's office to do this. If charged with a felony, go to that clerk's office. Both are located in the Main Courthouse at 1100 Van Ness.

The process for requesting a permanent medical excuse from jury service is as follows: (1) An applicant must submit to the jury commissioner a written request for permanent medical excuse with a supporting letter, memo, or note from a treating health care provider.

Are you a party in a court proceeding (i.e. defendant, complainant, legal representative, prosecution, plaintiff)? Transcripts and recordings can be ordered through the Online Registry Website launch, provided users have an account. Anyone who is a party to a case can order a transcript or recording online.

Typically, the best first step is to look for information on the court's website. Go to the court's website where the case is filed. Most courts have a section on their website called "online services" or something similar.

Ask at least 10 days before the court date if possible

Generally, you can turn in a form to ask for a new court date and the court will make a decision and mail it to you. If the court date is less than 10 days away, though, you'll need to explain on the form why you waited so long to ask.

We suggest you wear comfortable clothing that fits with the importance and dignity of the courtroom. Shorts, tank tops, bare midriffs, or similar dress are not allowed. Business attire is always appropriate. Check your summons or local jury office for more information.

Reporting instructions

Any jurors not needed during their service week will be excused. Reporting jurors are encouraged to bring their own bottled water, as coffee and tea will not be provided in the Jury Assembly Rooms and Jury Deliberation Rooms.

(KFSN) -- Fresno County is participating in a pilot program that raises juror compensation. Starting September 3, residents called into jury service in Fresno County will receive $100 per day, starting on the second day of service. That's up from the current rate of just $15 a day.

Pursuant to California Code of Civil Procedure Section 209, any prospective juror who has been summoned for service, and who fails to respond as directed and be excused from attendance, may be found in contempt of court, punishable by fine ($1,500), incarceration (5 days) or both.
